Athena and Medusa
Medusa was a very beautiful girl that lived in the city of Athens. Unfortunately, Medusa was very proud of her beauty and didn't ever think much about anything else but herself. Each day she boasted about how pretty she was and each day her boasts became more outrageous. Each day that passed she always had to say something about her looks, then one day her and her friends went to the Parthenon was the largest temple to the goddess Athena in all the land. It was decorated with amazing sculptures and paintings. Everyone who entered was awed by the beauty of the place and couldn’t help but think of how grateful they were to Athena, goddess of wisdom, for inspiring them and for watching over their city of Athens. Everyone, that is, except Medusa. When she saw Athena's sculputres she whispered that she would look better then Athena and kept saying hurtful stuff about Athena. Medusa also thought it was a shame that the emple was wasted on someone who's plain out ugly, everybody started to run out of the temple overhearing what Medusa was saying affraid that if Athena heard her they didn't want to upset Athena. Athena came to Medusa while she was busy not paying any attention to anything around her. Athena was very upset and didn't like what Medusa was saying about her, she told Medusa that even if it was true or not there is more to life than beauty alone. Medusa tried to tell Athena about her beauty but Athena didn't want to hear about it and told her that beauty fades swiftly in all mortals. It does not comfort the sick, teach the unskilled or feed the hungry then she let her know that Your fate shall serve as a reminder to others to control their pride. Medusa was now ugly and had snakes for hair Athena told her that her face is now so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it will turn a man and woman to stone, she couldn't even look at herself in a mirror without turning into stone.
Athena and Arachne
A girl named Arachne was every skilled weaver and would sit for days on end just weaving. One day by passers stopped to watch her, one of them asked her who tought her to weave and told them no one tought her, she just used the sun and tought herself that way. They didn't believe her they told her Athena must have tought her and she just didn't know it. She didn't like what they said and she laughed at them an told them that Athena couldn't do as well as her and she could probbly teacher her a thing or two about weaving. After she said that Athena showed up and tolder her if she still thinks that she's better then her they would hold a contest in three days to see who can do better. Athena told her that Zeus would judge on who did better, Athena also added if Arachne did better then her she would stop weaving as long as Arachne's world lasted, but if Athena won Arachne would never be able to weave again, they both agreed. The day finally came and they both started to weave, everybody watching Arachne finished hers and everybody was amazed but then they drew their attention to Athena, watching every last thing she weaved the out come came to Athena winning, and now Arachne being depressed and ready to just die because the only thing in the world she loved to do she wouldn't be able to do ever again. Athena feeling sorry for her truned her into a spider, even though Arachne could never touch tools to weave she could spin webs and make weaving out of that. Arachne was just happy with being a spider she could do what she loved. So the next time you see a spider don't kill it and maybe you might come across Arachne herself.
