Boy's Education
In Athens, boys started going to school at the age of six or seven and had to go to three different schools. One for sports, one for music, and one for things like reading and writing. If one could afford it families would have special slave called Piadgogos who would accompany their sons to all of their schools, and making sure they got their safely. Paidgogoi a special kind of teachers would often be very good friends to the boys they looked after.
Girl's Education
Athenian girls were nat as educated as the boys. Some of them were taught by their mothers at home, others went to special girls' schools. Some girls were taught to read and write, but they were probably mostly taught how to do housework.
School Rules
All Greek schools were private and the parents had to pay a fee. The parents decided how long their sons would be in school, and it also depended on how much maoney they had. There were no laws on how long the boys had to be educated, and some people recieved no education at all and some only went to one or two out of the three schools. The Greeks didn't agree onwhich school was the most important.
